To the Editor:

I would like to respond to a letter to the editor in the October 2 issue of this paper, concerning proposed cuts in education considered by the 104th Congress, claiming that localities would have to come up with the money, implying that this is a bad thing. This is the whole idea.

As a "former educator" she should know that the federal government has no business, or authority, in the education of our children; this is the jurisdiction of the states, localities and the people.

Only one out of seven education dollars from federal programs ever make it to the parents, teachers or children. Most of it is spent on bureaucracy or "experiments" pushed by the National Education Association.

She also claims that Democrats offer federal programs to solve problems in education and of course everything they perceive as ailing us. For years now Democrats have played their song while encouraging brutal federal taxes on working people, never solving any problems, usually causing more. All the while they are feeling our pain. (Their compassion, our money.)

James Madison, "Father of the Constitution" mentioned this in 1795 as "the old trick of turning every contingency into a resource for accumulating force in government."

Let's expose the Democratic party for whait they really are. Socialists. What is so "democratic" about citizens paying 45 to 50 percent of what they make to taxes in one form or another. According to one of Clinton's own advisers, children bom now will be paying more than 80 percent of their earnings to taxes when they start working.

The Socialists, including Clinton, Mark Warner and Bob Weinberg trust big Government over the people.

Get involved and let's put working people first. Vote for Republicans Bob Dole, John Warner and Frank Wolf— And most of all vote for democracy!
