This November, voters are being asked to take refuge under a "big tent" or to build a bridge to the twenty-first century. One option allows the privileged ring masters to parade nature's beautiful diversity as if it were a fearsome savage; the other gives everyone a chance to walk free among the world and celebrate the colors and differences that are humanity.
This weekend in Washington DC, the AIDS Memorial Quilt brought together more than 500,000 people, gay, straight, male, female, white and African American, to celebrate the lives of people who touched us, loved us, and left us — victims of a horrible ignorance that has claimed more than 300,000 lives.
