The season for hunting deer with rifles opened Monday. - At the grocery the number of deer checked in the first two; days seemed about normal. At Baldwin's Grocery in Washington the first day was very heavy, but the deer checking seemed to level off by Tuesday. Mayhugh's Grocery in Amissville reported an average year for the opening days.
At the Flint Hill Store the first two days of the rifle season seemed light, but many deer were checked during the black powder season.
