With far less fanfare the Town Council agreed to spend up to $3,000 for the Bicentennial Celebration.

Mayor Stewart Willis noted that the town could schedule the Alexandria Royal Fyfes, Drums & Trumpets for $2,500. For this fee they will perform at Town Hall dressed in colonial uniforms and lead a contingent to The Theatre for a performance where they will transform into toy soldiers.

Also on tap is an appearance by George Washington who will reminisce about being in the town as a 17-year old surveyor. Mr. Washington will cost between $200 and $300. The celebration will also include a visit from Saint Nicholas who will meet with children at the Town Hall after the program at The Theatre. The rest of the money is for, incidental expenses of the day.

Although Diane Bruce mused from the audience that this was "a lot of money," council members voted unanimously to spend it.
