It is popular in certain circles to say that The Inn at Little Washington put the Town of Washington on the map. In fact, it was the all-woman Town Council elected in 1950 that put the town on the map as former Mayor Dorothy Davis Brown explained Friday night.
About 40 people had gathered at Town Hall to hear the former mayor talk about the town in the 1950s and retired Judge Rayner Snead talk about the town in the 1940s when he took up a law practice. The two presentations were part of the town's Bicentennial Celebration.
Mrs. Brown explained that two weeks before the June 1950 election for the Town Council the Rappahannock News carried an article stating that the then mayor would not seek reelection. One woman in discussing the situation with the county
