After more than one and a half hours in executive session Monday night, the members of the Board of Supervisors unanimously voted for a resolution to condemn 17.1 acres of land belonging to Rosemary Wire Anderson and William W. Anderson off of the Rock Mills Road near the high school.
The resolution states that the board found "the taking of the . . . property necessary for public educational purposes" and "for solid waste management purposes" and that "a bona fide but ineffectual effort has been made to acquire the property" by negotiation rather than condemnation.
The supervisors have been trying for many months to acquire the property from the Andersons and another 10-acre property belonging to the heirs of Bryant Retcher Sr. for a centralized site for collecting trash and for additional athletic space at the high school. The Fletcher property is immediately behind the high school. The Anderson property is behind that and connects with Route 622 to U.S. 211.
