yellow. They each painted their own sun picture, and these were promptly displayed on the wall. The yellow school bus was another favorite; it seems that all the kids are really excited about school buses, said Mrs. Werner.
The spacious finished basement of the house is set up for the kids, complete with an area for producing art, toys of all kinds, a stereo system, a television and VCR for occasional videos (watching videos is rare), tables and chairs, and pegboard for little coats.
The group also studies a new number weekly, and of course spends time learning about different holidays. Now they're focusing on Thanksgiving, and soon they'll have a Christmas tree to decorate. They paint several times a week, do coloring, play with blocks to learn motor skills, do puzzles, put on finger plays, and play music, sing and dance, which may be nearly everyone's favorite thing to do.
When Mrs. Werner put some music on last Friday, all the children grabbed their favorite instrument, be it a recorder, a tambourine, or cymbals, and played along with the music; some danced around the room too.
