A rabid skunk was shot and killed on the front porch of a house in Flint Hill last Thursday.
The homeowner, who was reached by phone on Tuesday, said that when he arrived home, his wife told him that a skunk had been wandering around the yard and had been on the porch. She and their 10-year-old son had been walking in the yard when the skunk approached the boy and grabbed his pants leg, but didn’t bite him. The father shot the skunk when he arrived home, and the Animal Warden was sent to pick up the skunk and have it tested.
When it tested positive for rabies, the father spoke with an infectious diseases specialist who recommended that his son have the series of rabies shots, which will end up costing between $800 and $900, said the father. He had>his first shot on Monday.
