Artist Dee Waite has excelled at lany different types of art, and is now tainting wall murals, through her new company called Panache.
She recently spent two months jainting murals in her mother’s itchen in Indianapolis. The project »rew and grew (her mother kept adding on to what she wanted) as Dee finished each section of the kitchen /alls.
Before beginning a mural, Mrs. /aite meets with her client* and they Iwork on whatever design will be [painted on the wall. She has always ■ done some kind of art (she studied texS tile design and graphic art at Kent (State University) and is full of ideas ! for murals. She can work closely with (the client to incorporate their ideas I with her own, if they wish, and she’ll then produce a to-scale mock-up on paper.
Before beginning to actually paint the mural, the wall needs a primer coat and two coats of base paint, said Mrs. Waite. She first draws the design, using a Conte crayon (like chalk). At this point, before any paint for the mural is put on the wall, changes can be made in the design according to the client’s wishes. She normally works with latex paints, as they are less toxic and dry twice as fast as oil-based
