What exactly is a humbug? According to Webster it is “something designed to deceive and mislead.” To P.T. Bamum (the foremost showman of all time) a colorful humbug defended him against the bland shades of all that was humdrum. Bamum glorified wonder and elevated exaggeration, offering the public a palette full of dazzling deceptions and flimflam. He invited his audiences to decipher his trickery while charging them even more and they loved him for it!
This spring, Troy Frazier will direct the Windmore Foundation for the Arts’ production of BARNUM, the Broadway musical. Like Bamum, Troy is juggling home, job and a cast of over one hundred jugglers, actors, dancers, magicians, singers, clowns, musicians, and gymnasts. Frazier’s background ^eludes the study of direction at the Kennedy Center and theatre make-up artistry in New York, directing and producing Li’l Cats, and participating in Anything Goes, in Nomine, Brigadoon, Oliver!, and Godspell.
