• Training standards established by DCJS in the handling of family abuse cases.

• Mandatory arrest of primary aggressor on probable cause that assault and battery has occurred.

• If an arrest is made, the individual arrested will be taken into custody and brought before a magistrate for charging.

• Written report required if probable cause exists that an assault and battery has occurred, whether or not an arrest is made.

• Make report available to the victim upon request of the victim.

• May transport victim to hospital, safe shelter or magistrate upon request of the victim.

• Provide victims with information and legal and community services available.

• Mandatory petition for an emergency protective order.

• Mandatory arrest on probable cause that a protective order has been violated.

• Required written policies to implement the act to include: identification of primary aggressor; filing of reports; transport of victims; and information to victims.
