I will also be willing to attend a school board meeting with members and teachers present to discuss the terrible treatment that I received at the hands of classmates who voiced anti-gay hatred towards me throughout the school day, and to discuss what action I feel teachers should have taken to prevent this disgraceful behavior.
Whether we acknowledge it or not, there are other gay and lesbian students in Rappahannock classrooms today who are facing the same discrimination I did. These students need protection from hatred, and a safe environment in which to learn. I can only hope that the county’s school board will see to it that these conditions are provided.
