After winning the bid Hale and White proposed a prefabricated metal roof at significant savings.
The board decided they needed a third party to advise them. Wise and Associates, an engineering consultant, was hired and met with the board on July 15 for the first time and presented their assessment of the high school roof. The high school was built in the 1950s and is structurally sound, as long as there isn’t too much snow on the roof.
There is also a problem with 50 percent of the ceiling insulation being saturated.
Wise and Associates suggested three options:
• Stay with the current proposal to remove the old roofs including unplugging one of the roof drains which had been covered over with one of the previous roofs, cover with a 45 ml. membrane to protect from the rain, professionally remove the asbestos, evaluate the roof, and install prefabricated wood trusses and metal covering all by Aug. 25.
A breakdown of costs follows:
a. Bidding, bonding, supervision, utilities, temporary facilities, green box, transportation, mobilization, management, overhead and profit, $27,571.
