Each suggested locality is well described. There are directions for exactly how to get there along with the best time for a visit and a list of species likely to be encountered. The maps are detailed and easy to read. David Johnston’s book certainly made me want to get up and go.

I am happy to report that the grackles have moved out and away from my little bit of Flint Hill.
During the last week only one or two have visited the feeder. They appear to be young ones hatched and grown up this year. The juvenile grackles lack the baleful yellow eye of adults.
A male Indigo Bunting is again visiting the feeder. That is one bird I will never dismiss at a glance. The intense blue of the male is startling. I give each the same attention I did when they first arrived in May.
