SELFISH THOUGHTS
If you were to ask someone to define the word "selfish," it would likely be said that it was a desire to have everything one's own way. However, Oscar Wide gave the word a different slant which brings to mind a certain degree of intolerance for the practices of others. "Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live. And unselfishness is letting other people's lives alone, not interfering with them. Selfishness always aims at creating around it an absolute uniformity of type. Unselfishness recognizes infinite variety of type as a delightful thing, accepts it, acquiesces in it, enjoys it" Perhaps the world would be a better place if we did not wish it to be created in our own images.
It isn't selfish to care for oneself, especially when one is moving . through a difficult transition, such as loss of a loved one. Taking care j of yourself, by giving yourself the support you need only can ensure that you have the energy left to give to others you love and value. It helps, sometimes, to reach out to ask for what you need, because in so doing, you allow others the gift of loving you. At the MOSER FUNERAL HOME, 233 Broadview Avenue, Warrenton, we offer a number of preplanning options for those who want to ensure their wishes are followed and their families are taken care of.
