Later in the meeting Dr. Gangel received kudos from School Board chairman Dr. John Tole, on behalf of the entire board, for the improvements evident during Dr. Gangel’s 12 years of service to the county. Dr. Ible quoted from Dr. Gangel’s recent evaluation, “Dr. Gangel has been a strong advocate for school improvement and has fostered an atmosphere of distributed leadership. Both efforts are beginning to have a marked positive effect on our schools—”
Are the Schools Safe?
Bill Deal, Director of Maintenance and head of the School Safety Audit Committee, reported on the safety audits, required under Virginia law, that were performed on both the elementary and high schools. The audits focused generally upon physical plant and safety equipment, and the results were largely favorable. Some of the recommended improvements have been made
