February’s Mountain Voices presents a gentle Rappahannock reminiscence from Molly Brady, the daughter of Richard and Linda Brady of Oakton and granddaughter of Alice Brady and Ellen Welch of Flint Hill. Molly is a National Honor Society member and a sophomore at Guilford College. She wrote this piece in reflection of the spiritual offerings of our county and of her family’s cabin in Bean Hollow, near Flint Hill.

A haven in the
woods

Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains is a haven of wonder. Resting between Virginia and West Virginia, and towering over the little country towns of Flint Hill, Little Washington, Front Royal, Sperryville and Amissville, this heavenly existence is in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a piece of property that borders the Shenandoah National Park, filled with wonder and magnificence of the great outdoors...life that is the earth in all its glory.
On this piece of land there is a cabin where I grew to understand the awesome power of the land and all that it contains. My parents purchased this piece of land more than 20 years ago and have since built this beautiful cabin where they were able to teach my brother and me to respect, love and cherish the splendor of nature.
