Ron Makela, Amissville board member, expressed concern regarding the potential for intrusion by unauthorized individuals, and Mr. Deal responded that he did not feel that security was a problem. This and other subjects will be taken up at monthly safety meetings, and community volunteers are sought to assist with school safety issues.
Car Usage CostEffectiveness
As a follow-up to earlier discussions, Helen Williams presented an analysis of the use of school-owned vehicles for bus driver car-pooling* and discussions ensued as to the cost-effectiveness of this practice. Tom Junk of Sperryville suggested eliminating these aged vehicles, and paying the bus drivers to provide their own means of transportation instead. The board decided to refer the car issue to the Facilities Subcommittee for further review.

The elementary school’s sixth grade class received a check for $600 from the Rappahannock League of Environmental Protection to be used for environmental software, and the high school was the beneficiary of $1000 worth of National Geographic instructional materials and software to upgrade the weather station.
