After sending the engagement announcement to the newspapers, the first consideration for every couple is the almighty budget. The bride’s family traditionally foots the wedding and reception bills. The groom’s handles the rehearsal dinner (if there will be one) and transportation to the wedding for the wedding party.

The budget will determine the “fanciness” of the affair, the number of guests, and the number of members in the wedding party.

Pulling off a fun day is dependent on planning and getting as much done in advance as possible.

“Nowadays, if it can possibly be done way ahead, you do it way ahead,” James said.

Location

Anyone exchanging vows during peak wedding months should reserve the place to be married and then make a deposit on a hall, restaurant, hotel, or inn for the reception. Don’t forget to reserve a place for the rehearsal.
