Apologies for submitting letters for consecutive weeks. But I
ran across the quotation below recently and feel it should not be delayed.
In 1992, David McCullough published a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of our 33rd President, Truman.
Late in 1952, after the defeat of Democratic candidate, Illinois Governor Stevenson, things looked bleak indeed for Harry Truman. Yet he retained the sound common sense and balance that served him so well, as the following paragraph from pages 914-915 of McCullough’s book shows:
“For a while the mood overall seemed one of a death watch over his own presidency. New poll results showed that only 32
