objectives as Sheriff, but still has work to do. When he took over as Sheriff, the office was understaffed. A number of people left in 1998, mainly for higher paying positions elsewhere. Sherertz noted that Sheriff’s Deputy is not ' the most desirable position around.
He says that as far as pay, “Sheriff’s Deputies are on the bottom of the food chain.” He also noted that being a deputy involves working nights and weekends, which many people don’t want to do. Progress, however, has been made. They are not fully staffed as of yet, but Sherertz almost has a full staff.
