progress is the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The intent is to solicit constructive feedback from the community, and Sherertz says that his office has received some good input.
One other objective that Sherertz has accomplished is to set-up a child safety seat day, scheduled for June 19. Sherertz noted that other county agencies want to sign on. Two such agencies are the Health Department and Social Services, who would like to promote the Healthy Families initiative at the event.
Sherertz also has some longer term goals in mind.
• He would like to continue and increase community involvement. One way to do this, informal and separate from the advisory committee, is to establish a Counsel on Patrol (COP) program. This program involves deputies going out into communities, talking with people, getting to know them and availing themselves to the people for feedback and input.
• He would like to expand the D.A.R.E. program in the schools. Curently, the program is implemented in grades five, six and nine. Sherertz wants to also implement the program for seniors at the high school, as he thinks it would help them as they head into society. He would also like deputies to visit the schools and speak to students informally as part of DARE.
