• J.C. Welch, 23, of Sperryville. Welch was hired Jan. 4. He has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Radford University, and would like to pursue a Masters degree in Forensic Science. Welch received an academic award from the Rappahannock Criminal Justice Academy.
The new deputies are all natives of the county. They graduated from the academy on May 7. Sheriff Larry Sherertz says that the department is proud of these individuals.
