Of course, some old favorites never lost their popularity, including the sweet pea (Lathyrus odorata) and the climbing nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus). Dreer’s Garden Calendar from 1881 shows the nasturtium trained to a trellis, which is a very effective way to show off the elegant and edible flowers.
