Susan K. Jewell, majoring , • in Psychology, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl F. Jewell of Castleton, graduated from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va on May 16.
Encouraging graduates to claim “the gift of unencumbered time,” Dr. Paula P. Brownlee, president emerita of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, advised students, at commencement in May to identify themselves as creative persons.
Dr. Brownlee, a principal in the consulting firm, The Presidents’ Group, LLP, said that life after college is a transition from an imposed schedule of classes and activities to the freedom of being the “choice-maker” in the use of time. Often, once a career is begun, “free time is squeezed out...You must act as creators of your time.”
