Come join us at Youth Alive of Amissville, an exciting new youth ministry with contemporary Christian music and awesome Bible teaching. Physicals at Health Department

Kindergarten, school and preschool physicals will be offered at the Rappahannock County Health Department April 11 from 1 to 4 p.m., which will include physicals and immunizations. Immunizations only will be offered April 7 from 8:30 to 11 a.m., no appointment necessary. Please bring proof of income and immunization record. Appointment is needed for physicals only.

Extended hours

The Rappahannock Commissioner of Revenue s Office has announced that effective now through May 1 they will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help residents with personal property forms and/or those with income tax questions. For additional information call 675-3513.

Shooting matches at Castleton

A shooting match will be held every Friday at 7 p.m. at the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company. Rules are 12 gauge shot guns and 36 inch barrels, maximum length.

Hospital to offer classes

Warren Memorial Hospital will offer Healthy Eating, a dynamic, interactive program designed to help you choose foods that are low in fat, high in fiber, yet delicious. This program includes four weekly one-hour sessions, menus, recipes, and resources to help take the guesswork out of selecting and preparing healthful meals and snacks. Class sessions begin on Wednesday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the hospital. For details or to register for the program call 636-0291.

Wolf to hold town meeting

U.S. Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-VA-10) will hold town meetings at various locations in Virginia’s 10th District. Congressman Wolf will be in Rappahannock at the Library on U.S. 211 on Tuesday, April 18 at 5 p.m. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Tennis anyone?

Anyone with an interest in learning about tennis or dusting off and improving their skills might want to consider lessons from Rappahannock County resident Hunt Harris, who will be offering instruction this spring, summer and fall n group as well as individual formats. There will be a free opportunity to hit with Hunt to determine your level of play and get some quick pointers on Saturday morning, April 22 at the Rappahannock County Park from 9 to 11 a.m. After that, classes will begin forming according to skill levels and times available for instructor and instructees. • Saturday, April 8, “Second Saturday Hike Series” Destination: “ The Peak” (along the headwaters of the Jordan River in the northernmost sub-watershed of the Rappahannock River). Details: Meet at Mountainside Market, 987-9100 on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 a.m. and caravan from there to trailhead. Return mid-to-late afternoon. Bring food and liquid for self and clothing according to the weather of the day. Contact hike leader Hunt Harris for additional information.

• Sunday, April 16, Full Moon Hike. Destination: Old Rag. Details: This is an amazingly beautiful experience, though not for inexperienced hikers. Meet at the upper parking lot of Old Rag Mt. in Nethers at the end of Route. 600 off Route 231 (follow brown signs to Old Rag) between 6:30-7 p.m. Bring layered clothing and food / liquid for self. Return time uncertain owing to unknown number of participants and lunar mesmerizing influence. Contact Hunt for more information.
