Elizabeth Ellen Proctor Biggs, 89, of Front Royal died Friday, March 31 at Clearview Manor in Bentonville.
A mass of Christian burial was held Monday, April 3 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal with Rev. William F. Ruehl officiating. Burial followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Biggs was born Feb. 6, 1911 in Rockingham County, daughter of William and Clara Johnson Proctor of Rockingham County and Front Royal. She graduated from Perry McClure High School in Buena Vista, Blackstone Junior College and Radford State Teacher’s College, class of 1936.
She was president of the student body at Radford State Teacher’s College and taught school in Warren County, Rappahannock County, Sacred Heart Academy, Winchester and Clifton Forge.
She retired in 1970 after 25 years of teaching. She was employed with the Warren Sentinel from 1938 to 1940.
She wrote the book, “Beyond the Limit of Our Sight” and was a longtime volunteer and friend of Samuels Public Library.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was married to the late Joseph Miller Biggs, who died in 1967.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph P. Biggs and his wife, Mary Anne; William M. Biggs and Patterson B. Biggs, all of Front Royal; a brother-in-law, Charles Biggs and his wife Margretta; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four nieces.
