pretext of whatever legitimate concerns there may be about Hearthstone at Castleton, some seek to slander and insult my husband (“King of Castleton” and similar rubbish).
The mountain of misinformation in the letter to the editor section is astonishing. To comment upon a few items:
1) The Hearthstone school is autonomous with its own IRS number.
It administers itself independently. We help support it but do not own it or run it. We make applications on its behalf solely because it operates on our property.
Therefore, referring to Hearthstone as the Maazel School is a misnomer in every sense.
2) No amphitheaters or swimming pools were ever proposed in connection with the Hearthstone school petition.
3) A limited increase in enrollment does not mean an increment of 200 cars a day, since the majority of children would be bussed and carpooled in from central locations;
4) If others were confused about the enrollment cap of 45, we certainly have not been. For three years now, the student body has been kept to about 40 at the temporary site and in our mind, one of the purposes of the March 15 hearing of the Planning Commission was to raise the cap from 40/45 to a number agreeable to all as a final combined enrollment figure at the temporary and permanent sites.

We have been happy to be of service to Hearthstone and are confident that the merits of its petition will be reviewed on the basis of fact and what is in the best interest of the county. Having personally nothing to gain or lose, we shall view with equanimity whatever decision is reached. The joy of having seen the Hearthstoners bloom under tender nurturing will always be ours.
