landfill is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day of the week except for Mondays when the landfill closes at 3:30 p.m. The Flatwoods hours of operation were proposed to be Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but the Supervisors discussed alternatives, and a revised schedule should be developed and publicized. The Flatwoods Center will include recycling facilities, and the Washington recycling bins will be moved.

School issues

Schools Superintendent Dr. David Gangel provided the board with an update on the high school addition and introduced School Board Chair Rosa Crocker who presented the School Board’s 2000-2001 budget. Dr. Gangel reported that the addition in “moving along very well.” The masonry work is about complete, final roofing will begin shortly, and windows are going in, he said. The job is about a week and a half behind schedule, but the contractor will catch up “as soon as they get inside” and the facility will be ready for the new academic year. Dr. Gangel also invited the board to attend a walkthrough of the addition, scheduled for April 25 at 6 p.m.

Ms. Crocker provided each Supervisor with a copy of the $8.4M school budget, and with an introductory letter from the School Board to the Board of Supervisors.
