Once a year the Fraser Gallery does what no other gallery in Washington, D.C. does: it hosts an international fine arts competition. Over a thousand entries are received, and from those less than 25 are selected. This year, Spenyville artist Steven Kenny was not only invited to exhibit, but also ended up walking away with the top prize: Best of Show.
The Georgetown International Fine Arts Competition, now in its fourth year, is a worldwide call for artists to submit slides or digital images of their two dimensional or wall hung three dimensional works for review by an outside juror.
The process starts with the gallery inviting an independent juror to curate the show. Past jurors have included Joe Shannon, a well known D.C. area artist and art critic for Art in America magazine. This year, Margarida Kendall Hull, a highly acclaimed D.C. area artist and a respected professor of art at George Mason University selected the work for the exhibition.
