ident of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C. Mr. Brink, who resides part-time in Rappahannock County, will discuss the Trust’s successful Main Street Program. He will present a slide show demonstrating how this program has helped revitalize and preserve dozens of historic communities across the United States.
The National Trust is the nation’s leading preservation organization and has been active for 50 years in preserving historic landmarks and working with community leaders to develop plans for saving historic down towns and villages. Mr. Brink is familiar with local conditions in Rappahannock County as well as national trends and can provide a unique perspective on the challenges involved in saving small, historic towns.
The second speaker will be Neil Hughes of Waterford. Mr. Hughes is president of the Waterford Foundation, a local community organization which was established in 1943 to preserve the historic village in Loudoun County. He will explain how the residents of Waterford have managed to preserve that village much like it was in the 18th and 19th centuries, through creative use of conservation easements and other means.
