• Mrs. Holly Massie’s Seventh Grade Science classes were treated to a wonderful visit by Ms. Jennifer BufT of the Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal last Tuesday, May 30. She visited with two endangered Black Footed Ferrets from the center and presented a program called “Genetics Bottleneck.” CRC, as many of you know is affiliated with the National Zoo in Washington, and we are truly fortunate to have this valuable educational resource so close to our community
• The week of June 5-9 is Spirit Week at RCES! Each day students will come dressed in a variety of ways to Show their “Panther Pride.” Classrooms at the end of the week who have had the greatest percentage of participation will be awarded with free ice cream by the PTO. The Student Advisory Council will host a pep rally on Friday afternoon, June 9.
• We are very sad to announce that Mrs. Danette Opseth has resigned from RCES effective June 1. Danette, a Registered Nurse, will be re-entering the field of nursing in the near future. Her presence in the front office of RCES has been a pleasure for all of us, and we will miss her greatly.
At a reception given in Mrs.- Opseth’s honor last Thursday, Mrs. Raye Tupper, RCES Principal, sang humorous lyrics that she had written especially for Danette to the ,tune of a John Denver song. She was accompanied on guitar by Mrs. Joy Rollins, Music Teacher. Three “frustrated cheerleaders”, Mrs. Jennifer Deal, Mrs. Linda Torrance and Mrs. Jan Makela, performed cheers to parody Mrs. Opseth’s excitement on the sidelines at RCHS Girls’ Soccer games!
