ing the case, Sheriff Sherertz said, “We are conducting interviews and if the interviews take us to where I think, we could solve this today. By that I mean, we would have enough information to obtain a warrant for an arrest.”

Sheriff Sherertz said his office is “continuing to process a large quantity of evidence we obtained at the crime scene. I can’t tell you what it is and the reason is, this is information that is going to be useful to us during the interviews. It is information critical to the interview process that only the individual responsible would know.”

He said his deputies will be interviewing more neighbors “for purposes of finding witnesses or we might even develop a suspect during the canvass” of the neighborhood.

“This investigation has a couple of directions it is going,” said Sheriff Sherertz. “I don’t want to comment further than that. This is such a sensitive case.”

Meanwhile, volunteers and some members of the Fletcher family have been passing out reward flyers throughout the county and also in neighboring counties in hopes someone may have information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

“I want to caution the public not to be predisposed or jump to conclusions as to the responsible parties involved,” the sheriff said. “A thorough investigation takes time; forensic processing is very time consumptive. Some evidence is on its way for forensic testing.”

In other developments, the sheriffs office and the state police conducted a joint check point last Thursday and Friday nights on Route 231 near Montpelier, stopping cars, giving them reward flyers, and asking drivers and passengers if they knew anything about the crime or saw anything suspicious.

“We did get some leads which we will be researching,” the sheriff said.

Also, Channel 9 television from Washington, DC aired a segment on the Montpelier vandalism in a prominent position on its 11 p.m. news last Friday.
