Nellie Smith

Nellie Roberts Smith of North Garden passed away on Jan. 31.

Mrs. Smith was bom at Ben Venue, on Nov. 9, 1917, to the late Charles Dudley and Lucy Henry Wood of Flint Hill.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William R. Oliver, who was killed in Germany during World War II, a brother John Wood, who was killed in the Pacific during World War II, and a brother B.J. Wood.

; Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 54 years, Albert Oliver Smith of North Garden; a brother, Charles Wood and sister-in-law, Margaret of Blacksburg; a brother-in-law, Calvin Atwell; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Atwell of Rochelle; a son, Charles Oliver and his wife Pam of Boston, Va; a daughter, Linda Litton and her husband Clayton of Midlothian, Va; and grandchildren, Melissa Oliver of Abingdon, James W. Oliver of Rock Hill, S.C.; Sarah and Mary Philpott of Raleigh, NiC., Angela and Amanda Litton of Midlothian; Melanie Litton of Florida and Christopher Oliver of Boston, Va. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. i Mrs. Smith was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in North Garden, held numerous offices in the church over the years, served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School, was an active member of the United Methodist Women. * .
