Having scrimmaged Madison in their first competition of the year, Rappahannock was well aware they would have to wrestle their best to be competitive. Helped by pins from Jonathan Bankston and John Ferdetta, Rappahannock jumped to an early 24-0 lead.

Rappahannock saw Madison whittle away at the lead, closing to 36-33 by 189. Sophomore Eric Norman, a light 215 pounder weighing 198, had been wrestling the 275 class the entire day. Combined with giving up 70 odd pounds all day and facing Madison's sixth rank Lee, Coach Wells felt it was too much to ask Norman to wrestle. Thus Jeremy Graves was the key to victory or defeat.

Showing the same tenacity throughout the entire day, Graves showed his intensity by beating Geer 11-4, with Geer on his back fighting off the pin at the buzzer. The win by Graves insured a tie for third place at 39-39 and placed Rappahannock on the wrestling map. Rappahannock wrestlers had a good day at George Mason High School and just missed a great day by six points.

The team went 1-1-1 for a day by besting Stonewall Jackson at Mt. Jackson 51-24, tying District rival George Mason 42-42 and losing to New Kent of Richmond by a slim four points 36-40. The wrestlers learned the importance of having a full squad (varsity & JV), by giving up a forfeit at 145 and losing by four points and by earning four forfeits against Stonewall and insuring the victory. Entering the last three weeks of the regular season, Rappahannock is learning the level of dedication, both on and off the mat, wrestling requires to be successful.

In the New Kent match, Rapp went to early 24-10 lead with pins by Robinson, Ferdetta, Rodrigues, and Hensley. New Kent’s experience in the middle and upper weights allowed them to exploit some mistakes by Rappahannock. New Kent took the lead at 152 and was able to hold on to finish the meet four points over Rappahannock, despite a pin by Panther Sophomore Jeremy Graves at 215.
