The week started and finished on a high note as Panther teams played well in their final games or their District tune-ups. The Junior Panther 8th grade boys basketball team finished their first season in style, and the other basketball teams and volleyball teams shared success as the winter sports season neared an end.

On Friday, Feb. 2, the Panthers played their only game of the week as they hosted visiting Manassas Park for the final game of the home and away series. The Cougars, winless this season and the only District victim of the Rapp squad so far, came here hoping to turn the tables in this late season match-up.
In the first quarter, it looked as though the Manassas Park squad might really make it happen. They shot out to a quick seven to nothing lead before senior B.J. Christian decided to put the Panthers on the board with two points. The rest of the first quarter the Panther side just couldn’t get started as the Cougars ran up an impressive 18 to 7 lead.
The second quarter saw the Rapp team begin to bear down and play with more intensity as they realized the Cougars were planning to ruin parents night with a victory at the RCHS gym. The first half ended with Manassas Park on top 23 to 18.
The Panthers came out of the locker room fired up and took the third quarter away from the Cougars to capture the lead 32 to 29 with the last 8 minutes to go. The Manassas Park squad didn't give in and challenged again by taking the lead back 40 to 39 with just under three minute to play.
When the final buzzer sounded the Panthers had won their second Bull Run District game of the season by the score of 44 to 41. Seniors led the way Friday night as Chris Fletcher had 15 points and Mark Wharton added 12. B.J. Christian played another solid game with his on-court leadership and by contributing 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Junior Varsity played a hustling, scrappy style of basketball that night and it was good enough to earn them their first victory against a District opponent. Again the visiting JV squad from Manassas Park took an early lead and was on top at the end of the first quarter 8 to 4. But it was parents night for the JV Panthers also, and they were not going to let the Cougars spoil the occasion.
The second quarter was all Rapp as the Panthers outscored their opponents 19 to 4 and took a 23 to 14 lead
