track prior to the District championships scheduled for later this week. The Lady Panthers traveled to George Mason High School to square off against the Lady Mustangs.

This time it was the Junior Varsity Lady Panthers that seemed ill at ease and unable to focus on their objective. They were quietly and quickly handled by the George Mason JV squad two games to none — - 15 to 4 and 15 to 5. On the other hand, the Varsity Lady Panthers didn't pay any attention to their junior partners and handed the Lady Mustangs their 12th straight defeat two games to none, by the score of 15 to 13 and 15 to 12.

The week ended with the Lady Panthers having an overall Bull Run District record of 2 and 9 with one game remaining and the quarter finals of the Districts scheduled to begin on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Wrestling

Last week Head Wrestling Coach, Jim Wells said Rappahannock County wrestlers almost had a great day. On Saturday, Feb. 3, he said, "We had a great day."

Wrestling in the annual Stuart Draft eight-team tournament, the young squad was able to wrestle their way to a third place tie with Bull Run district rival Madison County.

The Stuart s Draft tournament is an annual event for the first weekend in February. This is the last weekend before the triple AAA schools go to districts and two weeks before the single A and double AA have their district contests. This tournament is a good warm-up for the all important district championships. With a round robin team format, Stuarts Draft gives every wrestler the same number of matches.

The eight teams are paired into two four-team groups. Each team wrestles each other within their group. After this round, each group has a team in first, second, third or fourth place. The last match of the day has each team paired with the corresponding place winner from the opposite group. Rappahannock was paired with Fort Defiance (FD), Wilson Memorial (W) and Manassas Park (MP). Manassas Park is also in the Bull Run District. Orange County, Madison County, Stuart’s Draft and Wilson Memorial made up the teams in the other group.

Opening with power house FD, the Panthers were able to wrestle with some of the top AA wrestlers in the state. Ranking nineteenth in the state among all teams and seventh in AA, FD showed their experience in the quality of their wrestling. Limiting the squad to three wins and pinning ten, FD scored a 65-16 victory.
