Cancer forum scheduled
The Rappahannock Chapter of American Cancer Society will sponsor a cancer forum on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Washington • Baptist Church. Dr. Wemer Krebser will speak on the cause, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. All are invited.
Advisory Council slated to meet
The’ Special Education Advisory Council will meet on Thursday, Feb. 22 in the library at RCES at 3:30 p.m. The committee will leam about the new achievement test that has been developed and discuss questions about federal monitoring that is ongoing. Rapidtran will not operate
Rapidtran transportation services will not operate on Monday, Feb. 19 in observance of Presidents' Day. Rapidtran is a program of the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board.
Coffee Shop to celebrate week
National Specialty Coffee Week celebrates the love of coffee ’ and all things related to it Feb. 12-19. Central Coffee Roasters in Sperryville will be holding coffee cuppings on Feb. 17 and 18. If you would like to reserve a space call 987-1066. Cuppings will be at 1 and 3:30 p.m. The shop is open daily.
Fruit School scheduled
The Madison-Rappahannock Area Fruit School will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15 at Graves’ Mountain Lodge. The program sponsored in part by the Virginia Cooperative Extension will begin registration at 8:15 a m. with the first event to begin at 8:45. Various speakers will highlight the morning session, followed by lunch and adjournment at 1:30 p.m. For additional information call the Rappahannock office at 675-3619.
Share the Fun Talent Shozv set
The 4-H Share The Fun Talent Show will be held Friday, March 24 at the Rappahannock County High School. Anyone interested in performing can pick up information at the Rappahannock County Elementary or High Schools or the Extension Office.
Try outs are Tuesday, March 6 at the Rappahannock County High School after school at 3:30 p.m. In case of public school closing or bad weather conditions, rehearsals will be canceled. For further information, call the Extension Office at 675-3619.
Annual Bland contest planned
Now is the time for all young musicians to tune up their instruments and vocalize their voices. The Rappahannock Lions Club has sponsored annual Bland Music contests for many years as part of a statewide program dedicated to encouraging students skills and to provide a showcase for their unique talents.
This year’s competition is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 at The Theatre in Washington. Student musicians are eligible to participate if they reside in Rappahannock or are attending school in the county. For more information contact Lion David Gillis at 987-8096.
Stocker Cattle workshop set
A 2001 Stocker Cattle workshop will be March 2 from 9 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. at the Marshall Ruritan Building in Marshall. Topics will include: Reducing and Treating Respiratory Disease; Internal and External Parasite Control; Control and Treatment of Pinkeye; Seasonal Price Trends; Pasture Supplements; Custom Feeding as a Marketing Option and Use of Pasture Stick in Forage Stand Evaluation. Beekeepers to meet
The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association will hold its February meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Culpeper Cooperative Extension Service building at the comer of Davis Street and South West Street, Culpeper. Boy choir coming for concert
The Community Concert Association of this six-county area I announces next in its subscription series is The American ; Boychoir of Princeton, N.J. appearing at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1 17 at Culpeper County High School. This renown international cultural treasure of 28 boys will be heard in Choral Masterworks for Boys’ Voices, Folk Songs and Arts Songs from many nations, American Folk Songs and Spirituals and a George Gershwin song medley.
Following the concert, at about 4:45 p.m., Music Director, Dr. James Litton will hold informal auditions for young boys who may be interested in the American Boychoir School.
