It was the week that saw the end of one sport and the recognition of one team member. It was also the ringing of the bell for the final lap of winter sports as remaining contests come to a conclusion prior to the beginning of District competitions.
Basketball
It was a two-game week for the Panther Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. The Junior Panther 8th grade boys’ team had finished up a fine season the week before and those boys began to think about what spring sports they were heading for.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Varsity and JV teams traveled to George Mason to square off against the Bull Run District leading Mustangs. The Mustangs came out attacking and pressured the Rapp squad into too many first-half mistakes. The result was a 35 to 21 halftime lead that the GM squad never relinquished.
The final score had the Mustangs still on top of the District as the Panthers fell 70 to 48. Senior BJ Christian had a season high 15 points to lead the RCHS team in the losing effort.
The Junior Varsity suffered the same result as they fell behind early in their game with the George Mason JV team by the score of 34 to 18 at the half. The game ended with the Mustang JV squad winning by the score of 54 to 42.
