Few in our region’s long history have played a more
vital role in conservation of our farm industry and
natural resources than the late Raymond R. “Andy” Guest.
His passing at age 61 after 27 years representing this area in the Virginia House of Delegates marks loss of one of the greatest public servants in Rappahannock history.
As some testimony to the high regard in which he was held, a bill could have been placed before those gathered for his funeral in the small, sun-flooded churchyard in Millwood last week, and acted upon by a majority of the Virginia House and Senate present and signed on the spot by the governor.
Patrician horseman, U.S. Marine and farmer, Andy Guest stood as a calm and intelligent giant of immense integrity. As Governor Jim Gilmore noted in his eulogy, Del. Andy Guest “always kept his word,” however strong the countering winds blew.
