VEFC “family” may be a couple, parents (with or without children living at home), a retired couple or an individual. Families serve on a completely voluntary basis, receiving no financial compensation for the care they provide. All volunteers receive special pre-service and in-service training, and have on-going support available from the VEFC and DSS staff.
“In recent months, DSS has had a need for short-term placements for adolescents. Last year, it was for pre-teens. The ages vary, but the overall need is ongoing”, stated Ms. Leathers.
