plan, patroned by Delegate William P. Robinson (D-90th), was presented on April 9. It is more like the existing 31st District, placing Rappahannock with Warren County and nine of the 16 Fauquier County precincts.
While he felt that Delegate Robinson’s plan was better for Rappahannock and Fauquier counties, Dell Ennis — who is running for the Republican nomination for the 31st District delegate’s seat — felt that Delegate Robinson’s bill had virtually no chance of passing.
“It probably won’t make it out of committee,” said Ennis.
Shared interests
Contacted after the first Republican plan was made public, Rappahannock County Administrator John McCarthy expressed dismay at the proposed new alignment.
“It doesn’t make much sense for us to go west,” said McCarthy. “This puts us on the eastern edge of a Shenandoah Valley district, with which we have few shared interests.”
