egg hunt, she would put two halves of the shells together, filling them with cracker jacks, peanuts, popcorn and jelly beans. She would make a paste of flour and water. The two halves were sealed around the middle with a piece of crepe paper, this made a beautiful egg with the different colors.
All the eggs were not hidden, some were kept back for the younger children who did not find many.
The Cannons ran a post office and general merchandise store. The children would meet in a room in back of the store. While the eggs were being hid, Mrs. Cannon would read from the Bible and give them a child’s sermon on the real meaning of Easter.
We never know what any of us do that makes a lasting memory in a child’s mind, but some of these memories last a lifetime. The special egg hunt Mrs. Cannon did is still appreciated and remembered by those who attended.
