On Tuesday, June 12 Democrats all over the Commonwealth of Virginia will be going to the polls to elect their candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. From a Field of seven excellent candidates, one Lieutenant Governor and one Attorney General will be chosen as the running mates to Mark Warner, the unopposed Democratic nominee for Governor.

The three candidates vying for the number two spot on the ticket Lieutenant Governor )d~ are Delegate Alan Diamonstein, Delegate Jerrauld Jones, and Mayor Tim Kaine. Each of these candidates is experienced, highly qualified, and committed to serving all Virginians. Each would make an excellent running mate to Mark Warner. Each holds the others in the highest regard. From these three very fine candidates, the voters must choose one.

The following are very brief thumb nail sketches of these three very accomplished candidates. All three candidates have web sites and campaign staffs which will provide far more information.

Alan Diamonstein. a native of Newport News, a former Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia, and a 33 year member of the House of Delegates where he served on the Appropriations Committee and Chaired its Higher Education Subcommittee, received the endorsements of Congressman Jim Moran and State Senators Toddy Puller, Janet Howell and Dick Saslaw who said that Diamonstein “may be the most qualified candidate ever to seek the office of Lieutenant Governor in Virginia.”

In a letter sent out to Democratic activists they stated, “for 32 years, Alan has been a field general in the House of Delegates, marshalling legislative victories for education, mental health, women’s rights, equal protection, children’s health, affordable housing, and the arts.”
