• The Relay for Life, held at RCES last weekend, seemed to be a huge success. Though the weather was damp and dreary, participants’ spirits were bright and sunny. Many thanks to all that helped to make this an enjoyable event for everyone.
• Congratulations to RAMS Eighth grader Jacob Stilley for his outstanding writing! Jacob, a talented young writer, submitted an original poem to Cobblestone magazine several months ago and it was recently published. It is printed here for your enjoyment.
Hurt not the earth
The massive oaks awake with the morning breeze.
A mighty forest stands alone, far away from massive homes.
City lights will quickly seize the stars that live among the mighty trees.
Machines will slowly roam among the trees’ dwindling home.
And the skies will quickly freeze.
Who will wake to find it gone?
In barren lands without the skies, this mighty artificial glow that reaches out into the dawn and burns the builder’s eyes.
It is a subtle disease that quickly grows.
