“is to promote an understanding of that which uniteVthe young people of Rappahannock; to increase young people’s feeling of belonging and purpose; to use an historical story as the basis of an artwork, which underlines the connections between the disciplines; to solve the visual engineering problem of organizing such a complex image; and to have Rappahannock teens take a leadership position in producing an original work of art that will hopefully inspire others."
The completed painting will be exhibited at all of the schools that participated in its development, and grant funding will be sought to create more “Singing Trees” around the world.
On May 25, during May Fest at The Rappahannock County High School, mural components will be assembled onto an 8 by 10 foot panel to compete the pilot project. Anyone interested in participating in the “Singing Tree” project can call Laurie Marshall at 987-8575.
