Keith Settle, a rising senior at RCHS, has been selected to attend Boys State this summer at Lynchburg College during the week of June 14-20. He is the son of Mrs. Tansy S. Frazier of Castleton.
The sound of music echoed through the halls of the elementary school on Monday as excited youngsters tried their hand at playing new band instruments purchased with a $1,300 donation from the Rappahannock County Woman’s Club. The students, Stephen Wiley, Sean Wayland, David Fisher, Chad Bear and Marc Wiley are members of the elementary school band which is under the direction of Ms. Robin Dexter.
Allison Best of Chester Gap was third runner-up in the apple pie baking competition held early in May in conjunction with the annual Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester. She is the daughter of Mrs. Mary Lowe and received a silver plate.

A contest to design a county seal is being sponsored by the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors. Rappahannock has no official seal and has in the past been using the seal of Virginia. The use of the Virginia seal on police vehicles, letterhead and business cards has led to confusion in the past. County Administrator John McCarthy said he feels that it should be a symbol typical of the community. He mentioned the apple orchards and the mountains as two distinct traits of the county.
