Ben’s team finished their goat beautifully and in time, but their final presentation fell well short of some of the more experienced teams. Again, Ben went unplaced. The judging and management contest consisted of three phases: judging a class of Nubian milking does, judging a class of LaMancha doe kids and finally, a written exam of 60 questions on management related topics.
Ben’s combined score earned him first place in Junior Judging and Management! When the youth events ended, about half of the youth exhibitors went home. The remainder stayed to compete in the National Show against dairy goat breeders from all over the U.S.
