Please remember that there are just a few of them and that there are millions of us. Yes, there are millions of Southerners who are descended from those who sacrificed so much just a few generations ago. And we are a proud lot.
We are proud of our way of life, of the natural beauty of our land, our way of talking, our food, our music, and our traditions. For me, the rebel flag symbolized that spirit, and it is an inclusive spirit. So, when some condescending know-it-all prejudges me, and assumes that my attitudes are provincial or somehow bigoted, well, that’s when I fly my rebel flag. You see, for me it symbolizes what I know that they don’t.
