Thomas Vann Baldwin of Washington, son of Paul and Cucie Baldwin, of Washington attended Air Assault School at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. During this ten day course, students are taught the basic principles of air mobile operations, to include sling loading equipment, helicopter rappelling, and loading zone operations.
The final test was a 12 mile-timed ruck march across the hilly Hawaiian terrain. Each soldier was equipped with a combat load in excess of 50 pounds along with a M-16 rifle. Many regard AAS as the ten toughest days in the U.S. Army.
Cadet Baldwin joined the prestigious ranks and was awarded the Air Assault Qualification Badge.
Thomas is a student at the Virginia Military Institute, VMI, and upon graduation, will commission as a Second Lt. in the U.S. Army Aviation Corps.
